VOLGA – The Cavaliers captured the top two individual spots en route to a team win at Monday’s Sioux Valley Invitational at Meadow Creek Golf Course.

Aberdeen Roncalli carded a 309 as a team as Lucas Schaefbauer earned medalist honors with a 70, followed by Ramsey Johnson in second with a 76.

The host Cossacks placed second with a 319 as Westin Trenhaile placed third over teammate Noah Puetz on a tiebreaker as both Sioux Valley golfers carded a 77.

Sisseton’s Nate Nielsen was fifth with a 79 as the Redmen placed third with a team total of 337.

Sioux Valley’s Gunner St. John and Logan Steffensen sandwiched their scores around a pair of Roncalli golfers as St. John fired an 80 for sixth and Steffeson carded an 85 for ninth to finish off the team total.

Austin Korales and Scipio Jeme were seventh and eighth with respective scores of 81 and 82 to round out the Cavaliers’ team score.

Nate Buisker carded an 86 for the Cossacks, which was good for 13th overall.

Jordan Svobodny and Jesse Roberts both shot a 96 to lead the Brookings junior varsity squad. Kade Brecher had a 103; Justin Kortan was a shot back with a 104; and Kaden Vugteveen carded a 107 as the Bobcats placed fifth with a 399.

The Cossacks compete in the Milbank Invitational on Thursday. Play starts at 10 a.m.
