CLEAR LAKE – Another candidate has been added to the list of those running for a District 4 House seat.

Daryl Root, of Clear Lake, was nominated at the Libertarian Party Convention April 14 in Sioux Falls.

Also in the running for two state House of Representative seats for District 4 in the November election are Democrats Jim Chilson of rural Florence and Melissa Meidinger of rural Watertown and Republicans Fred Deutsch of rural Florence and John Mills of rural Volga.

State representatives serve two-year terms.

Root is a self-employed flooring installer. He says he understands how excess government intervention can hamper businesses and their ability to pay workers what they deserve.  As a Libertarian, he supports low taxation, minimal regulations and keeping governments restricted to their constitutional authority.

“Too many of us have been socially conditioned into thinking we need more and more government in our lives.  I, however, believe the overwhelming majority of us are capable of accomplishing things far beyond our wildest dreams,” Root said.

“Each one of us has the ability to overcome any obstacle put before us if given the chance and a clear road unimpeded by excessive government intervention. When left unfettered, that path to accomplishment becomes quicker and easier for us all.”

He said his motto is, “Your life, your rights, your own.”

Root said he is a strong advocate for gun rights, property rights, equality for all people, and preventing the government from picking winners and losers.

“All people should be treated equally no matter what label society wants to put on them.”

Root said he is a member of the National Rifle Association, donates to Wounded Warriors Project, and, as time and money allow, attends local community benefits for those in need.

He has two children and five grandchildren. He enjoys reading, travel, cooking and gardening.  For more information, go to facebook.com/Root4District4.
