Rural Elkton man dies in farm accident

Emergency responders called to grain bin

ELKTON – Christopher Bauman, 27, died in a farming accident Monday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The report of a person trapped in a grain bin with corn in it came in at 12:25 p.m. Monday and occurred at a residence in rural Elkton, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

“Sections of the grain bin were removed to empty the corn from the bin. 27-year-old Christopher Robert Bauman was found deceased inside of the grain bin,” Sebring said in a press release.

“Christopher had been augering corn from the bin. It’s unknown why he entered the grain bin,” Sebring said.

The incident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Also responding were the Elkton Fire Department, Elkton Ambulance, Brookings Fire Department, Brookings Ambulance, and personnel from the Aurora Fire Department.
