South Dakota State junior third baseman Megan Rushing was named Summit League Softball Player of the Week on Monday, coming off a week that saw the Jackrabbits post a 4-1 record and wrap up Summit League play with their best league winning percentage in program history.

Rushing started all five games for SDSU last week, hitting .571 (8-for-14) with four doubles, two home runs, four walks and 10 RBIs.

The West Des Moines, Iowa, native reached safely in every contest and posted three multi-hit performances. She started the week with four hits (in six at-bats) during a midweek doubleheader against Dakota State on Tuesday, driving in three runs in Game 1 and four in the finale with a pair of doubles.

Against  league-leading Western Illinois, Rushing drew a pair of walks in Saturday’s opener, tallied a single in Game 2 and on Sunday closed the series with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, putting up three RBIs with a home run and a double.

This is the first career weekly honor for Rushing and the fifth of the season for a South Dakota State player.

The Jackrabbits wrap up the regular season today with their first home action of the season, taking on North Dakota in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
