BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University juniors Anthony Schneider and Philip Jacobson were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Baseball Team on Thursday.
Schneider, a native of Altoona, Iowa, was named to the honor squad for the second year in a row with a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average as a biology/pre-medicine major. He was selected as an infielder last season and as a designated hitter in 2017. Schneider currently leads the team with nine stolen bases and ranks second on the squad with five home runs.
A native of Dakota Dunes, Jacobson is in his first season as a starting outfielder for the Jackrabbits and earned a spot on the 12-player squad with a 3.91 GPA while majoring in pharmacy. Jacobson enters the weekend fourth on the team with a .303 batting average, adding a home run and 14 runs batted in.
Both Schneider and Jacobson will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration later this month.
Selections to the Academic All-District 6 Baseball Team were based upon a vote of sports information directors in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Candidates must be at least a sophomore in athletic standing, a starter or key reserve on his team and carry at least a 3.3 GPA.
