School out early Friday for FB final

BROOKINGS – Superintendent Klint Willert says there will be a 10:30 a.m. dismissal from all Brookings schools this Friday so that students and faculty can go to the noon Brookings High School football game against Pierre at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

Willert made the announcement at Monday’s school board meeting.

No. 2 Brookings (10-1) faces two-time defending champion and top-seeded Pierre (11-0) in the Class 11AA title game.

“The game gates open at 11 o’clock at the stadium. This will allow for students to have ample time to get to the stadium,” Willert said.

Lunch will not be offered at the schools on Friday, and the Boy & Girls Club will not be open due to training that was scheduled prior to this decision.

“It’s very unique that we have the opportunity to be in the state championship, let alone host it right down the street and again on a Friday noon game,” Willert said.

Bobcat Backers have announced a community rally starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, outside the Old Fire Hall at 310 Fourth St. “Let’s line the street and cheer loud for the Bobcats,” the Backers said in a Monday Facebook post.

A state championship send-off is planned for 9:30 a.m. Friday. “Meet in the BHS south parking lot as the football team boards the bus headed to the stadium,” the Bobcat Backers’ post says. “Vehicles are asked to line up behind the Bobcat bus.”

A pre-game social follows at 10 a.m. at Cubby’s Sports Bar & Grill.
