Schoon captures Farrand title

SIOUX FALLS – Jacob Schoon powered to the 170-pound championship after defeating Nick Schirado of Harrisburg, 9-2, in the title match on Saturday as the Bobcats finished 12th as a team with 62.5 points at the Floyd Farrand Invitational.

The Tigers won the team title with 203 points, followed by Watertown (191), Brandon Valley (173.5) and Sturgis (171).

After winning two matches on Friday, Schoon won by fall in 3 minutes, 52 seconds in the semifinal over O’Gorman’s Zach Witte to advance to the championship match.

At 106 pounds, Nolan Archer fell 9-2 to Eli Fischer of Milbank in the semifinals, but came back with a win by a 12-3 major decision over Sturgis’ Kolton Olson in the consolation semis to advance to the third-place match, where he dropped a 4-3 decision to Parkston’s Riley Weber to finish fourth.

At 113 pounds, Connor Klinkhammer defeated Landon Sudbeck of Parkston, by a 10-2 major decision to claim fifth place. Klinhammer dropped to the fifth-place match after a 3-2 loss to Wagner’s Lance Soukop in the consolation semifinal. Earlier in the day, Klinkhammer won an 8-0 major decision over Carson Askdal of Brandon Valley in consolation action.

Logan Bowes, wrestling unattached for the Bobcats, finished sixth at 170 pounds after losing 9-2 to Watertown’s Sam Stroup in the fifth-place match. Bowes opened the day with a consolation win by fall in 3:58 over Jacob Murphy of Sioux Falls Lincoln, but then lost by a 7-3 decision to Washington’s Tupak Kpeayeh in the consolation semifinals.

The Bobcats take to the mat next on Monday when they play host to Roosevelt and Yankton in a triangular that begins at 5 p.m. at the BHS Auxiliary Gymnasium.
