SD State Veterans Affairs to hold golf tournament

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State University Veterans Affairs Office is hosting its first-ever golf tournament at the Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings in support of the Wounded Warrior Project.

The tournament will be held Sept. 15 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and open registration at noon. The four-person scramble welcomes individuals from all skill levels.

“The Wounded Warrior Project is worthwhile for the simple reason of helping veterans who are struggling through life,” said Russ Chavez, SDSU’s director of veterans affairs. “While some people remember only the bad press they received a few years ago, they have since restructured and spend more on veterans and less on annual meetings and conferences.”

A meal, cart, gift and mulligans are included in the $100 golfer registration fee. The winning team will receive $400 while the runner-up will receive $200. Pin prizes, silent auction, yard games and putting contest will also take place.

The meal, provided by Craft Italian-American Fusion, costs $8 a person if one is not a registered golfer.
