SDSU announces schedule changes

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State and Drake have reached an agreement to change the location of their Sept. 14 football game to Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, giving the Jackrabbits seven regular season home games for the upcoming 2019 season.

Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m. The Sept. 14 game will be included in season-ticket packages and is part of a 12-game regular-season schedule. The 2019 season opener is set for Aug. 29 at Minnesota.

SDSU also is scheduled to host Long Island University (Sept. 7) and Southern Utah (Sept. 21) in nonconference play, with Missouri Valley Football Conference home games versus Southern Illinois (Oct. 5), North Dakota State (Oct. 26), Illinois State (Nov. 9) and Northern Iowa (Nov. 16).

The games against Long Island University and Southern Utah are set for 6 p.m. kickoffs, with all home MVFC contests slated for 2 p.m. starts.

The Jackrabbits’ nonconference schedules for the 2020-22 seasons also have been finalized. The 2020 non-league slate will include home games against Butler (Sept. 5) and Football Championship Subdivision newcomer Dixie State (Nov. 21), while SDSU will travel to Nebraska on Sept. 19 for their lone game of the year against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent.

The University of North Dakota will join the MVFC in 2020, putting the number of teams in the league at 11. SDSU will travel to UND on Oct. 3, 2020, for the first meeting between the two longtime rivals since 2013.

MVFC home opponents in 2020 include Indiana State (Sept. 26), South Dakota (Oct. 10), Western Illinois (Oct. 31) and Youngstown State (Nov. 21).

In 2021, the Jackrabbits have secured nonconference home games versus Delaware State (Sept. 11) and a rematch with Dixie State (Oct. 2). SDSU is slated to open the 2021 season with a Sept. 4 FBS matchup at Colorado State.

Conference play in 2021 will feature home games versus Southern Illinois (Oct. 9), Northern Iowa (Oct. 23), North Dakota State (Nov. 6) and North Dakota (Nov. 20).

The 2022 schedule has been adjusted, with the Jackrabbits now scheduled to open that season with a Sept. 3 game at Iowa - two weeks earlier than previously announced. SDSU also is set to host UC Davis and Butler in nonconference action Sept. 10 and 17, respectively.

The MVFC portion of the 2022 schedule is slated to include home games versus Western Illinois (Oct. 1), South Dakota (Oct. 8), Indiana State (Oct. 29) and Illinois State (Nov. 12).
