SDSU Baseball’s Beazley and McCay included among top freshmen

TUCSON, Ariz. – South Dakota State University baseball players Drew Beazley and Nic McCay were named Wednesday to the 2019 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America Team, powered by Diamond.

Beazley, a native of Johnston, Iowa, earned a spot on the team as a first baseman. A second-team all-Summit League performer, Beazley batted .275 with four home runs, 11 doubles and 21 runs batted in. He ended the season by reaching base safely in each of the Jackrabbits’ final 21 games.

McCay held a spot in the Jackrabbits’ starting rotation throughout the 2019 season, compiling a 6-1 record with a 4.08 earned run average. Also a second-team all-Summit League honoree, the Carlisle, Iowa, native led the squad with two complete games and finished second on the team with 83 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings pitched. He twice was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week during the 2019 season.

SDSU completed the 2019 season with a 28-22 overall record, including a second-place mark of 19-10 in The Summit League.
