BROOKINGS – Mike Daum posted a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, and South Dakota State shot 58.9 percent (33-of-56) from the field during a 99-63 rout of North Dakota in a nonconference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits hit 15 of their first 18 shots and were 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the floor in the opening half while building a 55-30 lead.

Daum had 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the first 20 minutes.

“We challenged our guys – you know, we’re in the midst of finals, a lot of responsibility, a lot of things on their plate,” said SDSU coach T.J. Otzelberger. “We talked about having all our focus on this game tonight and needing to play a complete game from start to finish.

“I’m happy with our effort both on the defensive end guarding the dribble – they’re a good offensive team and they push the pace really well – and then on the offensive end being able to attack in the paint. The game was played a little differently than some of the games we played in the past because we shoot a lot of 3s on most nights, but tonight we needed to take advantage of what we thought was a good matchup for us to go inside.”

“Our guys did a good job sharing the ball and sticking with it.”

SDSU’s lead twice reached 37 points, the latter occurence coming at 96-59 with 2:09 to go.

David Jenkins Jr., making his first career start, added 15 points and seven boards.

Reed Tellinghuisen chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds, while Tevin King tallied 11 markers on 3-of-4 shooting.

Dale Jones scored 18 points for the Fighting Hawks (4-6).

South Dakota State (9-4) takes on Colorado on Friday at 7 p.m. in Boulder, Colo.
