BROOKINGS – The SDSU-Civic Symphony will present a Concerto-Aria concert Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.
The concert, which is open to the public and free to attend, will feature four winners who won the orchestra’s annual competition. Three individuals will sing in French, Norwegian and Italian.
They are:
• Kate Allen, a mezzo-soprano from Aberdeen, will perform in French Saint-Saëns’ “Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix,” from the opera “Samson and Delila.” She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music education with vocal concentration.
• Katie Arndt, a soprano from Sioux Falls, will sing in Norwegian “Solvejg’s Lied,” from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt.” She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music performance.
• Martha Murrane, a soprano from Coon Rapids, Iowa, will perform Douglas Moore’s “The Silver Aria,” from the American opera, “Ballad of Baby Doe.” She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music education.
• Jennifer Karlen, a mezzo-soprano from De Smet, will perform Mozart’s “Già dagli occhi,” from “Mitridate” in Italian. She is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music education with vocal concentration.
The concert will open with the SDSU-Civic Symphony performing Mozart’s “Overture” from “Mitridate” and conclude with Ottorino Respighi “Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite 1.”
