BROOKINGS – South Dakota State completed a record-breaking regular season with a four-game sweep – including a trio of shutouts – versus perennial power North Dakota State at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.

The Jackrabbits won 3-0 and 1-0 on Friday – allowing two total hits. They followed that with 2-0 and 7-5 victories on Saturday.

“This weekend, I thought we were challenged offensively,” said coach Krista Wood. “They have good pitchers and they did a good job keeping us off balance.

“But our defense and our pitching staff did a better job of keeping their team off balance and we were able to throw three shutouts, which helped us in the three games that we maybe didn’t hit as well.”

SDSU improved to 38-5, breaking the school record for wins (37) in a season set in 2018 and matched in 2019.

The Jacks went 21-1 in conference play.

The Summit League Championship is this week at Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo, N.D. Top-seeded SDSU takes on the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Kansas City and South Dakota on Thursday at noon. They tourney runs through Saturday.

The Bison won seven of the past eight regular-season crowns, including two consecutively. They’ve claimed 10 of the past 11 tourney titles, including six in a row.
