SDSU drops finale in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Idaho State defeated South Dakota State 25-11, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20 to conclude the Pepsi Panther Invitational on Saturday at the Klotsche Center.

"I'm extremely disappointed in our overall play today. On the upside, we continued to fight and get better throughout the match," coach Nicole Cirillo told SDSU Sports Information. "We have seen the good and the bad this opening weekend and I am looking forward to getting back to practice and getting better."

Taylor Meeks led the Bengals (1-2) with 14 kills and two blocks. Chloe Hirst had 14 kills and a block assist.

Abby Garrity contributed 11 kills and Brooke Pehrson had eight to go with three service aces.

Ashlyn Van Every dished out 44 set assists. Haylie Keck came up with 14 digs and Hirst added 11.

The Jackrabbits’ Sierra Peterson totaled 10 kills, three service aces and a block.

Makenzie Hennen had 11 kills and an ace. Payton Richardson chipped in with eight kills and 2 1/2 blocks (one solo). Macy Smith added eight kills and a block assist. Ashlyn Smith had two aces and 1 1/2 blocks (one solo).

Mattison Munger tallied 29 set assists and Ellie Benson notched 11 digs.

Peterson, a junior right-side hitter, was named to the all-tournament team. She totaled 28 kills while hitting .303, and added five aces, four blocks (one solo), 18 digs and two set assists.

SDSU (1-2) is host to the Hampton Inn Jackrabbits Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Frost Arena. The schedule is in the Scoreboard.
