SDSU extends win streak to 10 games

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State won its 10th game in-a-row Friday night. They defeated Western Illinois 1-0 on a Leah Manuleleua goal.

The 10 victories in-a-row tied a school record and the Jacks improved to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the Summit League. Manuleleua scored in the 51st minute and it was assisted by Carina McLennan. It was Manuleleua’s ninth goal of the season and her 11th career game-winning goal, which is a new school record. She had four shots on the night, two of them were on goal.

SDSU outshot WIU 16-11 on the night. They had seven shots on goal and the Leathernecks had seven. The Jacks have shutout every opponent during their 10-game win streak. 

Goalkeeper Maggie Smither became the school leader in career saves during the game. She now has 269 career saves  and 69 saves on the season.

McLennan, Darien Poelstra and Maya Hansen each had two shots on the night. The Jacks committed 11 fouls and the Leathernecks committed nine. SDSU had nine corners and WIU had three.

The Jacks will look to extend their win streak on Sunday when they host Fort Wayne at noon at Fishback Soccer Park.
