SDSU Football opener moved up

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State’s 2021 fall football opener has been moved to Friday, Sept. 3.

The game was originally supposed to be played on Sept. 4, but was moved due to national television. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. central time and the television details will be announced at a later date.

With the move, SDSU will now have just 110 days between its final game in the 2021 spring season and the fall opener.

The Jackrabbits went 8-2 in the spring season and made it to the National Championship before falling to Sam Houston State 23-21.

The Friday game marks the third-consecutive season SDSU has a weekday opener. The Jacks fell to Minnesota 28-21 in 2019 on a Thursday and beat Northern Iowa 24-20 on a Friday in the spring opener.

Colorado State is coming off of a season where it went 1-3. The Rams had four games canceled due to COVID-19.

CSU is planning to have full capicity for the season opener.SDSU announced that its allotment of tickets for the game in Fort Collins, Colo., will go on sale today.
