SDSU golf teams take 13th, 16th

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The South Dakota State men’s golf team shot 289 Tuesday to take 13th with an 873 total during the Ram Masters Invitational at the 7,218-yard, par-70 Fort Collins Country Club.

Host Colorado State (289) cruised to a 14-shot victory with a 54-hole score of 4-under-par 836.

Wyoming’s Dan Starzinski won the individual title by seven shots. He carded rounds of 67, 66 and 66 for an 11-under 199 total.

SDSU’s Jacob Otta closed with a 72 and tied for 25th at 215. Jared Nicolls fired a 69 and was one shot back in a tie for 31st at 216. Harry Duggan (74) took 66th at 224, Sam Batta (74) tied for 75th at 227 and Alejandro Perazzo (79) tied for 87th at 231.

The tournament featured 17 teams and 96 individuals.

The Jackrabbit is Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at The Prairie Club in Valentine, Neb.

Women

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The South Dakota State women’s golf team finished 16th in the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee at the 5,900-yard, par-71 Cherokee Country Club.

The Jackrabbits shot 316 Tuesday for a 54-hole tally of 933.

Kent State rallied to win the team title, closing with a 1-under-par 283 for an 18-over 870 total. Kentucky’s Leonie Bettel shot the low round of the tournament – 6-under 65 – in the final round to win by four strokes with a 5-under 208 tally.

SDSU’s Teresa Toscano (79) tied for 54th at 229, Mia Seeman (78) tied for 75th at 236, Lani Potter (79) tied for 81st at 237, Cassidy Laidlaw (81) tied for 85th at 238 and Sydney Bormann (80) took 90th at 242.

Seventeen teams and 93 individuals competed in the event.

The Jackrabbits return to action at the Aggie Invitational on Oct. 8-10 in Las Cruces, N.M.
