SDSU handles Dakota State

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State toppled NAIA Division II foe Dakota State 92-60 Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena for its third consecutive victory.

The Jackrabbits shot 51.6 percent (35-of-63) from the field, including a 9-of-21 mark from 3-point range. The Trojans finished at 34.8 percent (23-of-66), including 11-of-34 from deep.

SDSU outscored DSU 48-16 in the paint and held a 48-28 advantage on the glass.

The Jackrabbits used a 12-0 spurt to move ahead 17-8 a little more than 5 minutes into the game. Later, a 14-5 run made it 45-29 at halftime.

The Trojans cut the deficit to 10 points – 46-36 – early in the second half.

Tevin King sandwiched buckets around a Brandon Key basket to make it 52-36.

SDSU later scored 11 consecutive points to grab a 70-43 advantage.

The lead peaked at 41 points – 92-51 – following a Dallas Polk-Hilliard trey with 2:12 remaining in the game.

Mike Daum scored a game-high 16 points while adding six rebounds and three assists.

Reed Tellinghuisen totaled 14 points and six boards.

Key, who dished out seven assists, and David Jenkins Jr. both added 13 points. Lane Severyn, who had six boards, and Skyler Flatten contributed seven points apiece. Chris Howell grabbed eight rebounds and King six to go with six points.

Ten of the 11 Jackrabbits to play scored at least four points.

For Dakota Sate (5-4), Keeon Johnson notched 11 poionts and Brady Elder 10.

South Dakota State (6-2) takes on Ole Miss on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Oxford.
