SDSU men win at Briar Cliff, women finish in 2nd

NORTH SIOUX CITY – The South Dakota State men’s cross country team scored 18 points to take the team title in the 8k at the Briar Cliff Invite held at the Adams Nature Preserve.

All six competing runner placed in the top 20, led by a fifth-place showing from Ben Anteau, who clocked a 25:24.20 for a personal best. 

Lucas Caminiti quickly finished next in 25:29.70 for sixth place while Cody Larson took seventh with a personal-best time of 25:32.34. Andrew Johnson was not far behind, crossing the finish line in 25:46.63 for ninth place and a personal best.

Noah Stewart took 13th place in 25:59.04 for a PR while, finally for the Jackrabbits, Nathan Notgrass ran a personal-best 26:25.04 for 17th place.

SDSU won the meet with 18 points, followed by Dordt in second place with 66 points. Buena Vista finished in third with 77 points, Mount Marty was fourth with 106 points and Midland scored 116 points for fifth. Morningside (143), Briar Cliff (186) and Peru State (217) rounded out the team finishes.

Women

The South Dakota State women’s cross country team placed second at the Briar Cliff Invite as multiple athletes scored personal bests in the 5k held at the Adams Nature Preserve.

SDSU placed six runners in the top 20, led by Bridget Henne, who placed ninth in 18:52.45. Right behind her was Jaide Geurts, taking 10th place in 18:53.32 for a personal best.

Emma Gonzalez also earned herself a PR, finishing 12th with a time of 18:56.79, while Harley Fischer clocked a 19:03.83 for 15th place and a personal best.

Rounding out the top 20 was Abby Deutsch (18th, 19:06.18, PR) and Sierra Watterud (20th, 19:23.38, PR).

Hannah Nelson came 23rd in a personal-best 19:35.69, Hannah Neusch took 30th with a time of 19:51.50 for a PR and Nina Dawson crossed the finish line in 20:04.07 for 34th. Rounding out the Jackrabbit finishers was Hannah Spoden, who finished 46th in 21:06.56 for a PR.

Dordt won the meet with 17 points as SDSU placed second in team standings with 44 points. Morningside took third with 86 points, Buena Vista was fourth with 122 points and Mount Marty finished with 146 points. Briar Cliff (170 points) and Peru State (191 points) rounded out the team finishes.

UP NEXT 

SDSU cross country resumes for the women on Oct. 14 in Peoria, Illinois for the Bradley Pink Invite while the men compete on Oct. 15 at the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Start times are set for 3 p.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.
