BROOKINGS – South Dakota State Director of Golf Casey VanDamme added a pair of transfers to the men's golf team Tuesday with the addition of Jared Nicolls and Trevor Thomas.

"Jared had a nice start to his college career at Stetson. We look forward to helping him continue his growth as a golfer and expect big things from him," VanDamme said. "Trevor has a lot of experience as a competitive golfer. He was a part of a conference champion team and knows what it takes. His focus on team was very evident throughout the recruiting process and I think he will be a great fit for our golf program."

Nicolls comes to State after playing two seasons at Stetson University. Last season, he competed in eight events, posting a 76.87 scoring average over 23 rounds.

Last summer, the Ponoka, Alberta, native tied for 12th in the Alberta Open, tying for fifth among amateur players, and finished fourth overall in the match play portion of the event. Nicolls shot a 4-over-par 292 (73-73-74-72) in the Alberta Amateur, finishing 13th and earning a spot in the Canadian Amateur.

Thomas played two seasons at Marquette University. He posted a 78.2 stroke average as a sophomore after playing in 30 of a possible 33 rounds as a freshman with a 76.11 stroke average. As a rookie, Thomas’ career-best 54-hole 220 (77-73-70) came at the Kiawah Classic (Nov. 1-3). He collected three top-15 finishes. He helped the Golden Eagles win the Big East Men's Golf Championship with a final-round 78. At the NCAA Noblesville Regional, Thomas carded a 4-over 76 in the second round.
