SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State men’s golf was selected to finish second in the Summit League preseason poll released Thursday.

The squad received 33 votes from the Summit League head coaches. The 2019-20 season was cut short and there was no Summit League Championship last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the teams did not have a fall season. The Jackrabbits finished tied for second at the 2019 Summit League Championship.

Denver was predicted to win the 2021 Summit League Championship with 49 total points and seven first-place votes. Behind South Dakota State, Oral Roberts was selected to finish third with 31 points. South Dakota and North Dakota State tied for fourth in the poll with 28 points while Omaha was picked to finish sixth with 25 points. The poll rounded out with a tie between North Dakota and Western Illinois with 15 points each.

Jack Tanner was named one of eight golfers to watch this season.

Tanner averaged 74.15 on a total of 20 rounds last season. He recorded two top-20 finishes, including a season-low 72-73-68--213 at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational.

South Dakota State returns to action Feb. 19-21 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
