SDSU men’s golf team opens NCAA play Monday

South Dakota State is making its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The Jackrabbits are the No. 13 seed in the Stanford Regional on May 15-17. They advanced to the NCAA Championship as an automatic qualifier after winning the Summit League Championship on May 1-2 in Newton, Kan.

SDSU is the first team since 2009-10 to win back-to-back Summit League titles.

SDSU's starting lineup consists of seniors Grant Smith and Trevor Tobin, sophomores Alejandro Perazzo and Jaxon Lynn, and freshman Alejandro Restrepo.

Smith was medalist at the conference tourney, while Restrepo also earned all-tournament honors.

Smith ranks third at SDSU in career stroke average (74.4).

REGIONAL FORMAT

The 54-hole Stanford Regional consists of 13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. The finals will be held May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Northern Illinois is the host institution for the 2017 championships.
