SDSU ranked 3rd, 4th in final FCS polls

The South Dakota State football team ended the season with its highest-ever ranking in an FCS poll, checking in at No. 3 in the final STATS FCS rankings of the 2017 campaign.

The Jackrabbits, who reached the FCS semifinals for the first time in program history, ended the 2017 season with a school-record 11 wins against three losses. SDSU began the season ranked fourth in the STATS FCS poll and held the fourth-place ranking through the month of September. In all, the Jackrabbits were featured in the top 10 for nine of the 12 weeks of the regular season en route to their sixth consecutive appearance in the FCS playoffs.

National champion North Dakota State received all 158 first-place votes to hold the top spot, with runner-up James Madison in second place. SDSU, Sam Houston State and Weber State rounded out the top five.

SDSU also was tabbed fourth in the final FCS Coaches’ poll of the season, switching places with Sam Houston State.
