“Great Value Colleges named South Dakota State University to our ranking of the top online RN to BSN programs not only because of the program’s affordability but also for the high quality of the curriculum,” said Julie McCaulley, the online relations coordinator for Great Value Colleges. “In addition, online students receive the same level of support and interaction with faculty as traditional on-campus students. With SDSU, nontraditional students – who for the most part, are hard-working adults – can tailor this flexible program to fit their schedule without ever compromising the quality of their education.”
In its review, Great Value Colleges cited that South Dakota State University’s flexible low-cost online RN to BSN program can be completed in either three or five semesters. The review also stated students seeking graduate degrees in the nursing field, this program would be a great fit, as students can substitute two undergraduate courses for two graduate courses and get a jump-start on their graduate coursework. Online students will receive the same quality education and attention as on-campus students and will have thorough communication with faculty and professors.
“To serve the needs of the state, our RN to BSN program has been in place since 1977 and went fully online in 2000. We have seen more than 500 nurses earn a bachelor’s degree since its start,” said Roberta Olson, interim dean of the college. “We appreciate being recognized by Great Value Colleges for our efforts developing nurses and addressing rural health care.”
According to McCaulley, Great Value Colleges compiles the rankings in an effort to contribute to the academic mission of higher learning institutions. It provides pertinent, unbiased information for prospective students and working professionals to aid them in making more informed decisions as they seek to further their education.
To compile the ranking, Great Value College editors first looked to US News & World Report for the top online bachelor’s degree programs offering an RN to BSN online option. Extra points were given for ranked schools. The firm then narrowed the pool down to tuition under $25,000 for out of state, unless otherwise stated. With an initial pool of nearly 80 schools, it applied the rating and ranking methodology above to determine the top 50 affordable online RN to BSN programs. In the case of a tie, the most cost-efficient school appears higher in the rankings.
