SDSU soccer shuts out Omaha, draws with Denver

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State soccer extended its streak of matches without a loss at Fishback Soccer Park to 40 this weekend as the Jackrabbits drew with Denver on Friday and then blew out Omaha on Sunday.

SDSU and Denver played to a 0-0 tie on Friday and the Jacks beat the Mavericks, 3-0, on Sunday. The Jacks are now 7-0-5 overall and 1-0-2 in the Summit League. They will play their first conference games on the road this weekend, playing at St. Thomas on Friday at 4 p.m. and at Western Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be the first time SDSU has played on the road in over a month.

Sunday

 SDSU 3, Omaha 0

The Jackrabbits scored their three goals in a span of just under 10 minutes in the second half to get the win on Sunday. 

Neither team scored in the first half and Delaney Grant broke the tie in the 49th minute when Delaney Grant took a corner kick. She kicked the ball on the corner and Omaha’s goalie was unable to keep out of the net and it was 1-0 SDSU.

Kayla Anderson then put one in the back of the net on a corner kick in the 58th minute. Karlee Manding kicked the ball on the corner and Anderson headed it past the goalie to make it 2-0. 41 seconds later in the 59th minute, Karlee Manding passed the ball to Katherine Jones who then moved up the field and found Avery Murdzek. She then put it past the keeper to make it 3-0.

The Jackrabbits dominated possession as they outshot the Mavericks 13-1. SDSU had seven shots on goal and Omaha (2-7-4, 1-1-2) did not register one on net. The Jacks had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks and had seven fouls, while the Mavs had 12.

Avery Murdzek had three shots, two on goal. Cece Limongi led SDSU with four shots, two on goal. Anderson’s only shot of the day was her goal. Grant had two shots, one on goal. Abigail Kastens had one shot that was on goal. Kennedy Sanders and Lauren Eckerle each had one shot.

Hailee Fischer and Jocelyn Tanner each played a half and did not have to make any saves. SDSU has now held its opponents scoreless in its past five-straight games. 

Friday

 SDSU 0, Denver 0 

Neither team was able to put one in the back of the net on Friday. The Pioneers had eight shots, three on goal, and the Jacks had six shots, two on goal.

SDSU had seven corner kicks and Denver had four. The Pioneers had 14 fouls and the Jacks had six. 

Kayla Anderson and Kaycee Manding each had one shot that was on goal. Maya Hansen, Reagan Anderson, Abria Brooker and Avery Murdzek each had one shot.

Ella Frost and Delaney McGowan each had one shot that was on goal for the Pioneers. McKenna Dannenhauer had two shots, one on goal. Sami Feller had two shots, Devan McSwain and Vanessa Murray each had one shot.

Fischer made two saves and Tanner made one. Nerea Arrazola had one save for Denver.
