SIOUX FALLS – The South Dakota State men’s basketball team pounded Utah State 83-59 in a consolation semifinal Thursday night after falling 79-71 to No. 15 West Virginia in the quarterfinals Wednesday in the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.

The fifth-place game is today.

Thursday

Baylor Scheierman scored 19 of his career-high 23  points in the first half as the Jackrabbits dropped the Aggies.

It was 44-29 at halftime.

Douglas Wilson had 16 points, Alex Arians 13 and Noah Freidel 10.

Freidel tracked down six rebounds and dished out five assists.

The Jackrabbits shot 56.1 percent (32-of-57) from the field, including 15-of-27 from 3-point range.

Wednesday

 No. 15 West Virginia 79, SDSU 71

Miles McBride scored 23 points, with Sean McNeil adding 16 and Taz Sherman 14 in the win.

The Mountaineers forced 14 turnovers while committing just three and held a 17-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Jackrabbits’ Douglas Wilson scored 17 points. Noah Freidel had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Baylor Scheierman chipped in with 15 points, David Wingett 11 and Matt Dentlinger 10.
