SDSU swimming both in 2nd after day one

WEST FARGO, N.D. – The South Dakota State swimming and diving programs sit second in both men’s and women’s team rankings after day one of Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare.

The Jacks took home their first individual title of the night with freshmen Cayden Christianson recording a winning time of 1:50.27 in the 200 IM, a jump from his previous-best (and school-record-setting) time of 1:50.45.

On the boards, Zach Boyd collected 309.75 points to take home gold on the 1-meter board. In the women’s competition, Fargo native Quincee Simonson took bronze with 246.95 showing.

The 200 freestyle relay of Elisabeth Timmer, Grace Witherspoon, Ketie Drezen and Emma Bachelder swam a 1:34.09 to take second place. Kristen Davis swam a 56.34 to take bronze in the 100 yard butterfly, while Cody Watkins turned in a 50.53 in the men’s race for third as well.

Emma Walz, Sam Frigard, Kristin Davis and Elisabeth Timmer recorded a 3:49.52 400 medley relay mark for second place and silver medals.

Day two of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships will get started this morning at 10:30 a.m.
