BROOKINGS – Rich-Ann Archer set a new school record in the women’s 60-meter dash as South Dakota State opened the indoor track and field season with a number of impressive showings Friday at the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

Archer, a sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, clocked a winning time of 7.45 seconds in the finals of the 60-meter dash to better the previous Jackrabbit record of 7.49 seconds set by Carly Carper in 2015. Jaiden Boomsma took third in the event in 7.61 seconds.

In the 300-meter dash, two Jackrabbits etched their names into the top five on the all-time performance list. Cerington Jones moved into second place on the SDSU career charts with her winning time of 40.18 seconds, with Hannah Whitbread taking second in the race and moving into fifth on the Jackrabbit list with a time of 40.72 seconds.

Lauren Van Dyke nearly set a new Jackrabbit standard in the women’s 600-meter run. Her winning time of 1 minute, 32.58 seconds is the second-fastest in program history and .20 seconds off the record set by Oksana (Covey) Johnson in 2019.

Johnson also was victorious Friday in a middle-distance event, claiming the 800 meters in 2:11.52.

The team of Jones, Van Dyke, Whitbread and Johnson later took third place  in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.76.

In the hurdles, Brielle Dixon blazed through her first career meet, claiming second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.68 seconds – a time that ranks second in program history.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Savannah Risseeuw claimed the first-place crown with a time of 47.50 seconds, followed quickly behind by Laura Bogue in second place in 48.15 seconds.

In the distance portion of the meet, Anna Donnay dominated the 3,000-meter race from beginning to end, taking first place with a time of 10:32.38.

Moving to the field events, Faith Leiseth placed in third in the shot with a throw of 47 feet, 3.50 inches, while Camryn Brinkman also claimed third with a distance of 37-09.25 in the triple jump — a mark that ranks just outside the Jackrabbit top 10.

After 16 scored events, the women sit in first place with 147.60 points, leading South Dakota (145), Minnesota (131.50) and 10 other schools. On the men’s side, after 17 scored events, SDSU sits in second place of 14 teams with 102.25 points behind South Dakota in first place with 150.50 points.

Combined, the Jackrabbits posted 23 top-three finishes on the day.

The South Dakota State men received individual victories on the track from Matthew Stahl in the 300-meter dash, Andrew Moeller in the 800-meter run and Reid Pierzinski in the 300-meter hurdles.

Stahl won the 300-meter dash in 34.82 seconds, which is the third-fastest time in school history. Kudra Nzibariza placed third in 36.25 seconds.

Moeller clocked a winning time of 1:56.62 in the 800, with teammate Blake Iverson claiming third in 1:58.55.

Pierzinski’s winning time in the 300-meter hurdles was 37.36 seconds.

Stahl and Pierzinski made up half of the Jackrabbits’ winning 4x400-meter relay, teaming with Manny Phoulom-Smith and Pierre Lear to edge South Dakota by .29 seconds for first place in the event with a time of 3:16.68.

In the 60-meter dash, Jared Wipf posted the top time in the prelims at 6.89 seconds, then came back later in the day with a time of 6.83 in the finals to finish second behind South Dakota’s Dylan Kautz by .02 seconds. Wipf’s finals time ranks fourth in program history.

Freshman Thailan Hallman also turned in a runner-up finish in his collegiate debut, clocking a time of 50.15 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

In the field events, Tristen Hanna made a successful Jackrabbit debut as the champion in the triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, 1.50 inches. Returning NCAA qualifier Trent Francom picked up where he left off last season in the pole vault, clearing 16-5 for third place.
