SDSU to play South Carolina

Posted

The South Dakota State women’s basketball team will play South Carolina in Sioux Falls this upcoming season.

The game will take place on Dec. 15 and will be played at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. SDSU won the WNIT this past season and South Carolina won the NCAA Tournament.

The Jackrabbits went 29-9 last season, while the Gamecocks went 35-2.

“We could not be more excited for another opportunity to showcase high-level women’s basketball in our state. South Carolina is an elite program and will be a great midseason test for our players,” said Jackrabbit head coach Aaron Johnston. “We are enormously grateful to the Sanford Pentagon for the work they put in to host a game like this in a prime location for Jackrabbit Nation.”

This will be the second time that SDSU and South Carolina have played. The Gamecocks won the first meeting, 74-52, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

This will be the second-straight season that the Gamecocks have played a game at the Pentagon. Last season South Carolina played South Dakota at the Pentagon and beat the Coyotes, 72-41. South Carolina was ranked No. 1 at the time.

This adds to an already tough nonconference schedule for the Jacks. SDSU announced earlier this month that they’ll be playing in the Battle 4 Atlantis Nov. 19-21. That field includes UCLA, Tennessee, Texas, Louisville, Gonzaga, Marquette and Rutgers.

The Pentagon has hosted 16 Division I women’s basketball teams since 2013. A broadcast partner for the game will be announced at a later date.
