SDSU volleyball team opens season Friday

The South Dakota State volleyball team opens its 53rd campaign this weekend when it plays in the UMKC Invitational at the Swinney Recreation Center in Kansas City, Mo.

The Jackrabbits play the host Kangaroos at 1 p.m. Friday in their season opener and Austin Peay at 4:30 p.m.

The Jacks take on Western Michigan at 11 a.m. Saturday to conclude the event.

SDSU opens the season on the road for the 11th consecutive year. The Jackrabbits went 1-2 in the 2017 season-opening Pepsi Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis.

Setting the Scene

South Dakota State opens its 53rd season overall and 14th in the Division I era.

The Jackrabbits sport an 896-708-8 (.555) all-time record, including a 175-257 (.405) mark in Division I play.

SDSU is making its first appearance at the UMKC Invitational.

The Jackrabbits and Kangaroos did play each other last season, with SDSU winning in four sets at the CEFCU Invitational in Peoria, Ill.

The Jackrabbits play UMKC for the 17th time, with SDSU holding the series lead at 11-6.

It will be the first meeting between South Dakota State and Austin Peay and Western Michigan.

Up Next

SDSU plays host to the Jackrabbit Invitational the following weekend at Frost Arena in Brookings.

The Jacks face Seattle at 7 p.m. on Aug. 30, Weber State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Green Bay at 2 p.m. on Sept. 1.
