SDSU women drop Northern St.

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team used a pair of runs in the second half to hold off Northern State 71-59 in an exhibition game Thursday night in front of 1,542 fans at Frost Arena.

Madison Guebert’s 17 points led SDSU. Ellie Thompson had 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Macy Miller added 12 points and  Chynna Stevens 11 points to go with seven rebounds. Tylee Irwin scored 10 points off the bench.

Northern State’s Jill Conrad had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds while Miranda Ristau registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

After a 30-30 tie at halftime, the Jackrabbits and Wolves were no more than three points apart until SDSU finished the third quarter on an 8-2 run, fueled by an Irwin 3-pointer, for a 50-44 lead.

SDSU took its largest lead, 62-50, with 3:47 left in the game after Guebert scored four consecutive points to start an 8-2 run.

Stevens scored six of her 11 points in the final 3:47.

Myah Selland dished out a team-high four assists while Stevens had a pair of blocks.

The Jackrabbits are now 22-0 all-time in exhibition games since moving to the NCAA Division I level.

South Dakota State opens its 52nd season Friday, Nov. 10, when it plays NJIT at 6 p.m. to open a women’s/men’s doubleheader.
