BOUDLER CREEK, Nev. – No rest for the South Dakota State women’s golf team.
The Jackrabbits will play two tournaments in a five-day window when they host the ninth-annual Jackrabbit Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Boulder Creek, Nev., and then compete in the Lady Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah, on Thursday and Friday.
SDSU is the two-time defending champion at both tournaments, and Teresa Toscano won her first collegiate individual title at last year’s Jackrabbit Invitational.
The nine-team field for the 54-hole Jackrabbit Invitational will play at the par-72, 6,343-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club with 9:45 a.m. shotgun starts both days – 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Teams will play the Coyote Run course on the front nine and the Desert Hawk course on the back nine.
Last year, Toscano fired a 212 (73-68-71). The Jackrabbits won by 13 strokes, shooting an 890 (297-291-302). Natcha Srimaneerungroj tied for 10th with a 227 (75-71-81). Syd- ney Bormann shot a 237 (80-73-84) to tie for 24th.
The 36-hole Lady Thunderbird Invitational takes place at the par-72, 6,050-yard Sunbrook Golf Course on the Black Rock & The Point. The 11-team field includes Summit League member North Dakota State. The Jackrabbits will have a shotgun start at 10 a.m. both days.
Last season, SDSU shot a 12-under par 564 (282-282) to set the school record for 36 holes and tie the record for 18 holes. Toscano tied for fourth, shooting a 1-under par 143 (73-70) and Bormann shot a 153 (77-76) to tie for 25th. Srimaneerungroj tied for 36th (75-81—156).
In the toughest tournament of the season earlier this week, SDSU shot a 930 on the par-72, 6,150-yard Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida, and finished 13th.
Toscano shot a season-best three-round 223 (73-76-74) to tie for a season-high 17th in the 75-player field. The sophomore collected six birdies in the tournament and beat two of the top 60 players in the NCAA (Nos. 20 and 60). She was named Summit League Golfer of the Week.
Both the Jackrabbit Invitational and the Thunderbird Invitational will have live stats at Golfstat.com.
