ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State's Ryan Froom claimed Pitcher of the Week honors and Newt Johnson was honored as Player of the Week, Summit League officials announced Monday – one day after the Jackrabbit baseball team finished off a three-game series sweep of Omaha.

A senior from Crystal, Minn., Froom earned his second Pitcher of the Week award of the 2017 season after tossing a four-hit, seven-inning shutout March 18 in Omaha. The right-hander struck out five and walked two in improving to 3-1 on the season. Froom also earned the season's first Pitcher of the Week award on Feb. 20.

Johnson, a junior third baseman from Rapid City, hit .500 (7-for-14) in the three-game series at Omaha, scoring eight runs and driving in four. He recorded three hits in each of the final two games of the series, extending his hitting streak to seven games. He also notched a double and two runs batted in in each of the first two contests.

The Jackrabbits, 9-7 overall, are scheduled to play a non-conference game Wednesday at Mount Marty before returning to Summit League action Friday at Oral Roberts to open a three-game series.
