SDSU’s Manuleleua, Nelson honored by Summit League

ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State’s Leah Manuleleua and Lukas Nelson earned Summit League weekly honors, as announced Tuesday.

Women’s soccer

Manuleleua has been named the Summit League's Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Manuleleua netted the game-winner Sunday at Creighton, sending the Jackrabbits home with a 3-2 golden-goal victory after her one-touch score in the 93rd minute.

The Manteca, Calif., native played 114 minutes over two games last weekend and fired three total shots, putting up two attempts against Iowa State on Friday before scoring on her lone effort against the Bluejays.

For the season, the sophomore leads SDSU with two goals and has started five of six contests with nine shots.

This is the first weekly honor for Manuleleua in her Jackrabbit career. She shared offensive recognition with South Dakota's Taryn LaBree, while the Coyotes’ Coral Suaraz was the Defensive Player of the Week.

SDSU (2-3-1) returns to action facing Northern Iowa on Friday at 7 p.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Cross country

Nelson captured his first Summit League Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor after placing first among collegiate competitors at the NDSU Open on Friday.

The sophomore from Sioux Falls led the charge in the open 6K, finishing second overall and first among collegiate competitors in 19 minutes, 21.9 seconds. He improved upon his personal-best 6K time by 39 seconds, the fastest time at the NDSU Open among active Jackrabbits.

Nelson helped the team grab second in Fargo with 42 points.

The Jackrabbits return to action Friday when they travel to Falcon Heights, Minn., for the Oz Memorial.
