BROOKINGS – Seattle swept South Dakota State 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 to open the Jackrabbits Invitational on Thursday night at Frost Arena.

“We struggled. There is no hiding it. We couldn’t pass in Sets 1 and 2. Finally, in Set 3, we started passing better, but they just blocked very well,” coach Nicole Cirillo told SDSU Sports Information. “We didn’t take advantage of some of our opportunities. When we finally fixed one skill, another went downhill. That was just the overall theme, we couldn’t get a string of points going because of that.”

Rachel Stark led the Redhawks with 11 kills, a service ace, a block assist and eight digs.

Eve Kerschenbaum hit .444 while contributing 10 kills and Julia Queiroz tallied eight to go with 2 1/2 blocks (one solo). Queiroz hit .600.

Maja Stojanovic added five kills, two aces and a block assist. Sofia Sanchez had five kills and a block.

Seattle totaled 10 blocks, led by Shae Harris’ 3 1/2 (one solo). Harris also dished out 29 set assists.

Mahra McLeod tallied 2 1/2 blocks. Michelle Taynton paced the defense with 13 digs and Tijana Milojevic chipped in with 10.

The Redhawks hit .284 and the Jackrabbits finished at .121.

SDSU’s Makenzie Hennen finished with 10 kills, an ace, a block assist and eight digs.

Payton Richardson had eight kills and a block. Sydney Andrews added four kills, an ace and a block. Ashlynn Smith notched four kills and a block assist. Sierra Peterson chipped in with four kills.

Maddie Fay totaled 29 set assists. Ellie Thein came up with nine digs and Crystal Burk eight.
