Selma Marian Morseth, 96, of Hendricks, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, Minnesota.  Funeral services  are at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks.  Burial is at the Hendricks City Cemetery in Hendricks, Minnesota.  Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Houseman Funeral Home, Hendricks.

Selma Marian Morseth was born in Marble Township in Lincoln County, Minnesota, the ninth of 10 children born to Andrew and Marie (Helland) Nefstead. She was baptized and confirmed at Marble Lutheran Church. Her mother died when she was 6 years old, and by the time she was 11 years old she was in charge of the household. She attended district No. 72 country school for eight years and then transferred to Ivanhoe High School where she graduated in 1940.

On July 6, 1942,  Selma married Harvey Morseth at Lutheran Free Church in Hendricks, Minnesota. They lived in Minneapolis until Harvey joined the U.S. Navy and served overseas. Selma moved back to Hendricks during this period and made her home there.

Selma was a homemaker known for her excellent cooking, sewing, and quilting skills.  She satisfied her dreams of being a poet or singer through her love of music and of the spoken word. She loved to read and could recite a number of favorite poems that she had committed to memory. She enjoyed drawing, tending to her plants, playing Scrabble and crossword puzzles. She had a sharp wit and a playful sense of humor. Time spent with family and friends was precious to her as were their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Selma was devoted to her Christian faith and faithfully served in several roles at Faith Lutheran Church. She worked for a period of time as a nursing assistant and trained medication aide at the Hendricks Nursing Home for a number of years, where she ultimately became a resident.  Selma was a member of the Help Each Other Extension Club, New Grove Little Club and Literacy Club.

Selma is survived by her sons, Brian Morseth of Minneapolis, Joel (Shelley) Morseth of St. Cloud, Minnesota,  Aaron (Angie) Morseth of Hendricks, Minnesota; daughters, Marie (Rollie) Tooien of Astoria, Brenda (Stephen) Olson of Sioux Falls, Sheila (Don) Engelstad of Hendricks, Minnesota; Gayle (Greg) Woodall of Sioux Falls; 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband five brothers and four sisters and infant great-granddaughter, Emma.
