BROOKINGS – Brookings Police are looking for the driver of a semi that ran into a railroad crossing arm Monday, according to Assistant Chief Derrick Powers.
The incident occurred about 9:50 a.m. Monday at the railroad tracks on 22nd Avenue, Powers said.
“As the train was approaching, the railroad crossing arm was coming down; a semi traveled across the train track. It was traveling north on 22nd Avenue and hit the crossing arm, causing damage to it,” Powers said.
“The semi continued northbound on 22nd Avenue until Eastbrook Drive, where it made a right and traveled east, and that’s where it was last seen. We’re unable to locate it,” Powers said.
The semi was described as a white semi with red letters.
“Possibly said BMI on it, according to the witness,” Powers said.
He said there was extensive damage to the crossing arm but did not have an estimate on it.
