BROOKINGS – The state on Wednesday reported 200 new COVID-19 cases and one new death in South Dakota over the past week.
Seven of the new cases have been in Brookings County.
The South Dakota Department of Health is now updating its online COVID-19 dashboard weekly. New cases are reported each week by noon Wednesday, and the update includes cases reported by 1 p.m. Tuesday each week.
Brookings County cases have risen to 4,248 total cases (seven new confirmed): 4,206 of those people have recovered (four new) with five active cases (up by three) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,394 people have tested negative in Brookings County (63 new), and 130 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.
The county is in the “minimal” community spread category.
The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,948 (170 new confirmed and 30 new probable) as of midday Wednesday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.
Of the statewide cases, 290 are classified as active (up by 82 from last week). As of Wednesday, 122,617 people have recovered (115 new), 6,498 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 38 people are currently hospitalized (up by 18) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,041 people with COVID have died (one new).
The SDDOH website reports 369,649 people (1,990 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.
The new death was a man in his 60s.
The SDDOH website reported midday Wednesday that 704,129 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 374,889 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.
In Brookings County, 28,251 vaccine doses have been administered to 15,196 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Wednesday, 43.3% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 50.9% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.
The SDDOH reports 57.9% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 53.6% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
