S.F. East takes two from 'Chutes

BROOKINGS – Sioux Falls East swept a Junior Legion baseball twinbill from the ‘Chutes on Tuesday at Bob Shelden Field, winning 17-11 and 15-0 in three innings.

Brookings (5-9) plays host to Sioux Falls West in another doubleheader tonight at 5.

Game 1

 Sioux Falls East 17, Brookings 11

Sioux Falls East scored three runs in both the first and third frames before adding a pair in the fourth to move ahead 8-1, and then held off the ‘Chutes.

Brookings rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fourth; however, East answered with two in the fifth and sixth in the fifth to make it 16-5.

Brookings added five runs in the sixth, leaving the score at 16-10.

The ‘Chutes’ Jackson Krogman had a solid game at the plate, going 3-for-4, including a three-run double in the fourth, and scoring twice.

Jamison Honkomp also notched three RBIs. Dan Messerli finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Kyle Bauer, who singled, Nick Schefers and Max Struck each added an RBI.

Max Kjelden gave up six runs – four earned – on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in three innings as he took the loss on the mound.

Just 11 of the game’s 28 runs – five for Brookings and six for East – were earned.

Game 2

 Sioux Falls East 15, Brookings 0 (3 inn.)

Sioux Falls East put up seven runs in the opening inning before adding four in both the second and third frames to end things early and complete the sweep.

Ben Horsted gave up two hits with three strikeouts and a walk in three innings. Bowen Liu was 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Tallying hits for Brookings were Krogman and Bauer. Honkomp drew a pair of walks and Struck was hit by a pitch.

Struck took the loss, surrendering 10 runs on eight hits and three walks in one-plus innings of action.
