BROOKINGS – A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a hit-and-run accident May 30, according to Brookings Police.

The Brookings County State’s Attorney’s Office identified the suspect as 20-year-old Noah Giles of Sioux Falls.

Law enforcement received several calls regarding the vehicle in the 600 block of 12th Avenue, Assistant Chief Joe Fishbaugher said. The BPD blotter report says the incident was reported at 12:27 a.m. May 30.

“The male driver left the scene of the accident and tried to hide from law enforcement. Thank you to some Brookings citizens that heard the accident and went to help. They observed the male leaving the scene of the accident on foot and assisted law enforcement with locating and detaining the male driver,” Fishbaugher said.

“The driver struck a street sign and two legally parked vehicles. The driver sustained minor injuries. No one else was injured,” Fishbaugher said.

In addition to DUI, the driver was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, reckless driving, and underage consumption, he said.
