Shelley Marie Ellis, 54, passed away peacefully in her home on June 5, 2021, surrounded by family, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Funeral services have been set for 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to the time of services on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Rude’s Funeral Home.

Shelley Marie Ellis was born June 8, 1966, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Lydell and Mary (Meisenheimer) Ellis. She graduated from Marion High School in 1984, and went on to study cosmetology for a brief time at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD.
After withdrawing from LATI, Shelley went on to pursue a career as a certified nursing aide (CNA) and worked in several nursing homes throughout the years.
She also volunteered at the Oldham Elementary School while her children attended there. She began working for the Brookings Health System in 2001 as a Home Health Aide and continued her career there until she retired due to health issues in July 2015.
After leaving the health field in 2015, Shelley spent her time always on the go trying to enjoy life. This included a 3,000-mile road trip in 2016 to visit the ocean in Florida, and her first ever airplane ride to Las Vegas in 2020. Shelley loved the color purple, enjoyed growing a vegetable garden almost every year, along with cooking, baking and trying new recipes, but her true joy in life was spending time with her eight grandchildren.
Shelley is survived by her three children: Kara (Mike) Grayson of Brookings, SD, Christina (Keith) Bonwell of Madison, SD, and Tabitha Woldt of Brookings, SD; her grandchildren, Ryan, Nakeyta, Paislee, Tae’Sean, Easton, Cherysh, Jhenae and Meridius; her brothers, Eddie (Tammy) Ellis of Volga, SD, Justin (Carol) Ellis of Yankton, SD and half-sister Ardell (Gary) Kaubisch of Marion, SD. Shelley also leaves behind special companion Norm, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Shelley is preceded in death by her parents, Lydell & Mary (Meisenheimer) Ellis.
She will be missed by many, but will remain forever in our hearts.
