Shirley Welch, 82, of Brookings, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the Brookings hospital.
Following her wishes, Shirley will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Shirley Ann Welch was born on May 19, 1936, in Volga, to Arie and Marvella (Dahl) VanderWal. Shirley attended school in Arlington, and graduated with her high school diploma. In 1970, Shirley met Ray Welch, and the two were married on Sept. 17, 1970, in Oklahoma.
One of Shirley’s greatest joys in life was working with arts and crafts. She especially enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and was extremely talented at making crocheted afghans.
She also enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. Throughout her life, Shirley worked as a cook for the Deubrook School District.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ray Welch; two daughters: Sharlee, and Shelly; one son, Arie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two daughters.
