Sioux Falls couple wins tournament

BROOKINGS – Mitch and Kylie Brunick took home the title in the South Dakota Golf Association Husband/Wife Tournament on Sunday.

The couple from Sioux Falls shot three-under par in the two rounds to win the trophy. The Brunick’s shot a 69 on Saturday, with three eagles, and then shot an even 72 in the second round on Sunday.

The Brunick’s beat the defending champions in Justin and Morgan Johnson of Watertown. The Johnson’s shot one-over in the tournament after shooting a 74 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday.

Amanda and Jeff Campbell of Sioux Falls came in third with a score of five-over. They shot a 72 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday. The lone Brookings couple, Brody Hullinger and Kelly Evans-Hullinger, shot six-over and came in fourth. They shot 76 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday. Betsy and Rob Dewit of Sioux Falls rounded out the top-five with a score of 12-over.

Senior Division

In the senior division Watertown’s Mary Wicks-Neuroth and Mike Neuroth shot 10-over par and won their second title. They shot a 76 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday.

They won by a single shot over Aberdeen’s Scott and Jackie Whitlock and Russ and Cara Boehler of Rapid City. Bob and Jennifer Staley of Pierre finished in fourth with a score of 12-over. Sioux Falls’ Bert Olson and Cindy Olson came in fifth with a score of 13-over.

There were five couples from Brookings in the senior division. Greg and Janice Benning were the top finishers from Brookings and they tied for 17th with three other couples after shooting 26-over. Kenneth and Tammy Knudtson were right behind them as they came in 21st with a score of 28-over.

Julie and VJ Smith tied for 30th with a score of 32-over. Dan and Pat Little tied for 41st with a score of 42-over and Don and Sheryl Deibert tied for 47th with a score of 47-over.

Volga’s Alan Baker and Joan Hegerfeld-Baker tied for seventh with a score of 15-over.

The next SDGA Tournament is the Match Play Tournament and that will take place July 7-9 at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Yankton.
