Sioux Valley boys blow out Hamlin in Volga

VOLGA – The Sioux Valley boys’ basketball team remained perfect on Tuesday night. The Cossacks improved to 11-0 after a 72-48 victory against Hamlin at the Cossack Center in Volga.

Hamlin (2-5) hung around for the first four minutes, but after that it was all Sioux Valley. The Cossacks outscored the Chargers 21-12 in the first quarter and didn’t let up in the second as they took a 42-21 lead into halftime.

The Chargers cut the lead to 54-39 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Cossacks put the game away in the final frame. Sioux Valley outscored Hamlin 18-10 in the fourth.

Sioux Valley shot 52.7% from field and was 8-for-21 from three. The Cossacks made six of their seven free throw attempts. They outrebounded the Chargers 28-20 and forced 11 turnovers.

Sioux Valley had 17 assists on 29 total made shots. They had just seven turnovers on the night and had nine steals.

Oliver Vincent led the way once again for the Cossacks. He scored 24 points. Kelton Vincent had 15 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Parker Puetz had 12 points and five rebounds. Hayden Ruesink had eight points and grabbed seven boards.

The Chargers shot 35.8% from the field and were 3-for-18 from three. They had 10 assists on 19 made field goals and were led by Jackson Noem who had 13 points, four assists and three steals. Tyson Stevenson and Nicholai Arbach each had nine points.

The Cossacks will face McCook Central/Montrose Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Volga.
