Sioux Valley boys roll past Deuel, 82-43; Parsley scores 1,000th point


CLEAR LAKE – Sioux Valley put five players in double figures and got off to a fast start in an 82-43 Lake Central Conference boys’ basketball victory over Deuel on Tuesday night.

The Cossacks led 34-14 after a quarter and 57-21 at halftime.

Max Nielson and Ryan Schuster both scored 16 points, Parker Puetz 14, Noah Puetz 13 and Oliver Vincent 11. They went a combined 27-of-45 from the field (60 percent).

Sioux Valley shot 55.4 percent (31-of-56) overall, including a 13-of-28 clip from 3-point range.

Schuster grabbed eight rebounds. Nielson had five boards and five assists to go with three steals. Vincent and Noah Puetz both came up with four steals.

The Cardinals’ Sutton Fritz finished with 17 points. Scott Lovre had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Deuel (4-12, 0-5) welcomes Tiospa Zina on Friday. Sioux Valley (12-5, 3-2) is host to Castlewood on Tuesday in the back end of a doubleheader Tuesday at 8 p.m.

WAVERLY – Jasper Denison posted a double-double as the Divers dropped the Coyotes.

He scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Paydon Casper added 16 points, five boards, four assists and four steals.

Carter Malone had 12 points and Byron Bumann five to go with four dimes.

For WSS (3-10), Ethan Whitted had 13 points. Sam Dalton totaled 10 points and eight boards. Austin Appelhof corralled 11 rebounds.

Lake Preston (4-12) heads to Colman-Egan on Thursday.

 De Smet 67, Flandreau 55

FLANDREAU – The Bulldogs topped the Fliers in an LCC matchup.

Kalen Garry poured in a game-high 27 points for De Smet. Rett Osthus added 13 points, Ethan McCune 12 and Trevin Holland eight.

Flandreau’s Nate Kneebone just missed a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Tash Lunday had 15 points, six boards and three assists. Connor LeBrun added 13 points and four dimes.

De Smet (12-2, 3-2) heads to Wolsey to face Wolsey-Wessington on Thursday. Flandreau (7-7, 2-3) is host to Clark/Willow Lake on Saturday.

GIRLS

 Hamlin 57, Deubrook Area 31

HAYTI – Hamlin beat Deubrook Area 57-31 in a nonconference girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.

The Chargers jumped out to a 14-4 lead after 8 minutes. They were ahead 29-18 at halftime and pushed the advantage to 44-21 through three.

Hamlin shot 44 percent (22-of-50) and had 12 turnovers.

Logan Keszler led a balanced attack with 14 points, while Stacia West added nine, Cami Stevenson eight, Chloe Grantham and Kami Wadsworth six apiece, and McKenna Prouty five.

Deubrook shot 23.4 percent (11-of-47) and had six turnovers.

Shaylee DeBeer had another solid game with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go with five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Hamlin (12-3) is host to Redfield/Doland on Thursday. Deubrook Area (14-2) takes on Elkton-Lake Benton on Friday in Lake Benton, Minn.

FLANDREAU – The Fliers’ Hannah Parsley joined the 1,000-point club but the Lady Bulldogs pulled out the Lake Central Conference win.

Flandreau led 17-14 after a quarter. De Smet moved ahead 25-22 at halftime and was ahead 35-29 through three.

Autumn Wilkinson scored 21 points and Kennadi Buchholz added 12 as the Lady Bulldogs clinched at least a share of the LCC title.

Parsley finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, nine steals and five assists. She is the third Flandreau girls’ basketball player to score 1,000 career points.

Maria Parsley added six points, while Madie Hursey, Ashtyn Bertram and Marianna Pavlis each contributed five.

Maria Parsley grabbed six boards and Hursey dished out six assists.

De Smet (15-1, 5-0) takes on Howard in the DWU Classic on Friday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Flandreau (10-5, 3-2) plays host to Clark/Willow Lake on Saturday.

 Deuel 59, Sioux Valley 34

CLEAR LAKE – The Cardinals led 16-3 after a quarter, 24-15 at halftime and 48-24 through three in the LCC matchup.

Jadyn TeGantvoort finished with a game-high 26 points and four steals.

Britney Lovre hit four treys while adding 18 points and seven rebounds. Saycia Sime chipped in with 11 markers.

The Cossacks’ Abbie Schneider knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 14 points. Julia Schneider and Reagan Johnson contributed five points apiece.

Deuel (8-9, 1-4) plays at Tiospa Zina on Thursday. Sioux Valley (4-12, 0-5) is host to Dell Rapids on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
