VOLGA – A big night from Miakken Vincent lifted the Sioux Valley girls basketball team to a 59-50 victory over Deuel Tuesday night. Vincent finished with 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals and the Cossacks improved to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the Lake Central Conference this season.
Sioux Valley got out to a big lead early as they led 18-4 at the end of the first quarter. They then outscored the Cardinals 19-11 in the second and took a 37-15 lead into halftime. The Cardinals fought back in the third, outscoring the Cossacks 20-12. They then had a 15-10 advantage in the fourth, but it was too late.
Ashley Bjerke finished with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Reagan Johnson had six points and seven rebounds. Ellie Schmidt had seven points and four rebounds.
Deuel (6-9, 0-4) was led by Saycia Sime who had 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Brittney Lovre had 19 points, three assists and five steals. Haley Winter had six points and eight rebounds. Harley Hennings and Taylor Bauman each had four points.
Sioux Valley shot 37.5% from the field and were 9-24 from three. They held Deuel to 27.4% shooting from the field and the Cardinals were 6-22 from three. Each team had 38 rebounds.
The Cossacks will travel to Parker on Saturday and the Cardinals will host Tiopsa Zina on Thursday.
