Sioux Valley sweeps Pheasants in BEC DH

Sioux Valley swept a Big East Conference basketball doubleheader against Parker on Monday night at the Cossack girls romped to a 58-39 win over the Pheasants while the Cossack boys cruised to a 73-53 victory to hand the Parker boys their first loss of the season.

Both teams travel to Beresford on Thursday for another BEC doubleheader against the Watchdogs.

BOYS

 Sioux Valley 73, Parker 53

Trevor Olson poured in 34 points – surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for his career – as the Cossacks overcame a 26-24 halftime deficit by outscoring Parker, 49-27, in the second half for a 73-53 Big East Conference win.

Olson knocked down 6-of-14 shots from beyond the arc while Max Nielsen added 11 points and Trevor Hanson had 10 as Sioux Valley improved to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in the BEC. Ryan Schuster pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals.

Chayse McKenney and Alex Kasten each had 13 points for the Pheasants, who dropped to 2-1 and 2-1 in the conference. Camden Bialas chipped in with 11 points and eight boards.

The Cossacks jumped out to a 14-7 lead after the first eight and then outscored the home team 36-18 over the second and third frames to cruise to their fourth straight win.

Carly Granum dropped a game-high 22 points to lead Sioux Valley, 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Lynsey Stevens added 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals while Miakken Vincent chipped in with 11 points.

Brianna Berens scored 11 points for the Pheasants, who dropped to 2-2 and 1-2 in the BEC. Raelin Jurgens posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards to go along with three dimes.

 Lake Preston 47, Estelline 35

LAKE PRESTON – The Divers overcame a 10-7 first-quarter deficit for a 47-35 Dakota Valley Conference win over the Lady Redmen on Monday night.

Ashlyn DeKnikker posted a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with six steals, five assists and a pair of blocks to lead Lake Preston, 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the DVC. Meriah Flegel added eight points and Lexie Larsen pulled down nine boards while Lindsay Hillestad contributed seven points, seven steals and four assists.

Jordan Saathoff led a balanced Estelline attack with eight points as Faith VanMeveren added seven; Brinn Begalka scored six; and Kylie Beare chipped in with five.

Next up for both teams is the Swiftel Classic in Brookings over the Christmas break. The Divers face Langford Area on Thursday, Dec. 28., while Estelline, 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the DVC, takes on Sioux Valley on Friday, Dec. 29.

 Arlington 54, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 13

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals won their second straight by beating up on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland, 54-13, for a Dakota Valley Conference win on Monday night.

Jeryn Christensen scored 13 points to go along with three steals and an assist while Madysn Gilbertson posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds with four steals as Arlington improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the DVC.

Victoria Malisch and Khloe Tieman each had three points for the Raiders, who dropped to 0-5 and 0-3 in conference play.

ORR travels to Waverly on Thursday while the Cardinals play in the Swiftel Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
