SIOUX FALLS – After posting a shutout between the pipes in Sunday’s match, South Dakota State goalkeeper Maggie Smither was named Summit League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
The junior started and played all available minutes in a 1-0 home victory over Denver, recording six saves in a hotly contested slugfest that went to double overtime.
The win was Smither’s eighth of the season and 26th of her career. The Sioux Falls native helped SDSU move to 3-0 in Summit League play, picking up her seventh shutout of the year while lowering her goals against average to 0.69.
This is Smither’s second weekly honor in 2018 and the fourth time she’s been named Defensive Player of the Week in her career.
The Jackrabbits return to the field Thursday in a home bout with in-state rival South Dakota. The SD Corn Showdown Series matchup kicks off at 6 p.m. from Fishback Soccer Park.
