Snodgrass seeking Dist. 7 seat in House

BROOKINGS – Louise Snodgrass, 25, is running for a District 7 seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives.

“It is my belief that Brookings deserves an engaged, passionate and working-class individual to champion our community’s core values and dreams at the state level, and to influence positive change for the entire state of South Dakota,” Snodgrass said.

Snodgrass, who was born and raised in South Dakota, manages the Brookings Farmers Market and says she has dedicated herself to service. She said her commitment to cultivating growth in Brookings is something she plans on taking with her to Pierre.

Snodgrass, a Democrat, said she is running because she recognizes the immediate interests of the community and shares many of the same experiences.

“I understand the struggles and limitations of living a healthy, prosperous life with an extremely low income,” Snodgrass said. “It is my strong belief the economic classes we fall into should not be the determining factor of our futures.”

The lack of progress the current representatives have made in the state Legislature, despite their many years serving, is concerning to her, Snodgrass said.

“I am seeing young, brilliant minds being driven out by regressive legislation and leadership that does not reflect their forward-thinking values,” Snodgrass said. “For the sake of my community, for the livelihoods and the futures of many, I need to do something about what I am seeing. I need to act.”

Snodgrass is a graduate of Brookings High School who has served as an AmeriCorps volunteer and is now in her second year serving as the board president of Dakota Community Market, a Brookings area food co-op.
