Snow removal info available to residents

BROOKINGS – With winter weather here, the City of Brookings would like to remind residents of the resources that are available to them to receive updates related to snow removal, parking advisories, and parking bans.

The City encourages residents to utilize these resources any time there is snowfall.

The best way to receive up-to-date snow removal alert information is through the City’s own media channels including the www.CityofBrookings.org website, social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), local cable channel 9, which is also available through the live TV link on the City’s website, and by calling the snow line at 696-7669. Alerts are published to these forms of mass media at least four hours prior to a parking ban becoming active. The alerts remain live through the duration of time that the alert is active.

Notifications are also sent out by email to individuals who have subscribed to the City’s alert center notifications: The City of Brookings encourages residents to sign up for email alerts by visiting www.cityofbrookings.org and clicking on “Get notifications.” Text alerts are also available, but the City does not recommend residents utilize SMS text as their primary source to receive emergency alert information.

The City of Brookings also releases information related to snow parking bans via press release to the local newspaper, radio stations, and state television news outlets who are also encouraged to share the info with the community.

As a best practice the City recommends moving vehicles or refraining from parking on streets any time there is any accumulation of snow. Doing so ensures that residents will not receive a snow parking ticket and it allows for snow and ice removal workers to clear streets in a complete and efficient manner.
